Tony Campolo on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos

I seem to be the last person who has seen this clip of Tony Campolo interviewed on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos.  It’s terribly late (filmed in March) but I’m posting it anyway, in case anyone else (like me) missed it the first time around.

Tony Campolo articulates a faith that takes seriously the words of Jesus telling us to look after the poor, hungry and hurting.  I can’t improve upon it by introduction, so just watch it and see it for yourself.

Hmm… Those are some awesome points. He has it so right about how Christians must not be pitted against each other – and you can’t associate a political party with Jesus… especially when poverty, environment are moral issues themselves.

One of my favourite verses in the bIble is “true religion is this: taking care of the widows and the orphans…”

I wish we all looked more like Jesus.

What I found particularly encouraging about this clip is that Tony Campolo engaged George in a genuine conversation about faith. By the time it was all said and done, Tony was bridging the gap with George in helping him see and understand the real Jesus … someone who is loving, was not for the religious or pious status quo of His day, and was interested in being with or among sinners (the incarnation). It would have been just as easy for Tony to try and turn the attention to the sale of his book or self-praise for having been an advisor to Clinton or whatever, but he consistently returned to the Scripture and to a genuine discussion of faith, even George’s.

I too wish we all looked more like Jesus and I hope to look more like Him next year at this time.
