Finding my voice

I’m excited about starting up this blog, but I have to confess to some apprehensions about it as well.

It’s a tricky balance, finding my voice. I’m used to blogging on my own, but launching a blog for Pioneers is an entirely new challenge for me. I’m not speaking for myself, or as the voice of Pioneers. I am speaking as myself, for Pioneers.

I can’t speak for every member of Pioneers Canada, let alone Pioneers internationally. But as a member of Pioneers, I can speak. I can share from behind the scenes of our Canadian office, in hopes that you can benefit from, and inform us on, our journey.

Maybe this is the place to insert the disclaimer that the thoughts and opinions found here are those of the authors’, and do not neccessarily represent the position of the organization. Yes, that should cover it. *smile*

I like what you’ve done with this blog so far Jennifer! I think that a blog is much more likely to give a more accurate ‘voice’ to the real face(s) PIONEERS than many of the other, more glossy, ways that we communicate. I’ve been reminded recently of the need for transparency and authenticity(individually and as well as in teams and organizations), and frankly, I can’t think of a better way to communicate the more “real” side of PIONEERS. I’m glad you’ve decided to take up this challenge; I’m looking forward to keeping up with this blog and seeing where it will go!

I’m so glad for us to have this place to put some thoughts and our readings, ponderings, and the things that challenge us to experience Jesus and communicate Him in a way that is relevant to a needy world. The concept of speaking “as yourself and for Pioneers” is interesting. I guess in some way everything we say and do “speaks” as ourselves and for a lot of things … ourselves, Jesus, our families, the organization we work with, and probably a few others. So, go for it. The good that comes from sharing what we are learning on the journey of life with Christ is far better than being silent, pretending we know more than we really do, or are more than we really are, and worse yet, not giving honour where it is most due. (Psalm 115:17-20).

I too am still trying to “find my voice” as I blog. Some posts I think I’ve done it…and the next,.hummm, that desire for people’s approval raises it’s ugly head and I start second guessing myself. May the Lord help both of us find our voices as we seek to glorify Him and touch the world for Christ via the internet.

I admire people who can write well and express themselves in a way that invites people to read. I believe you have that gift Jennifer and I’m enjoying this blog! I don’t necessarily feel I have that gift and so I’m sometimes reluctant to express myself publicly. As someone else said, however, “the desire for people’s approval” shouldn’t be the reason that I speak up. Keep up the great work!
